AVIMETAL and Shandong University have achieved a breakthrough:Manufactured IN939 Nickel-Based Alloy by LPBF Using Donut Laser Beam!?
A major game-changer for aerospace Additive Manufacturing is here. Our strategic collaboration has achieved a breakthrough in annular beam Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) for IN939 nickel-based super alloys, solving a critical industry challenge! ??

Traditional beams cause unstable quality (microcracks) in hard-to-print alloys. Our joint research successfully addresses this by converting beams to an annular shape, resulting in:
? A wider, more stable process window (no keyhole defects).
? Significantly boosted low-angle grain boundaries to 57.1%, drastically reducing cracking.
? Enhanced surface finish and hardness.

AVIMETAL in-depth participation throughout the process of the project: we provided the MT280 LPBF Equipment (with adjustable beam shaping) and MT-IN939 powder, based on engineering experience, to research plan formulation and process parameter optimization. Our findings are proudly featured as the cover article in Aeronautical Manufacturing Technology. ??

We are proud to bridge academia and industry to elevate aerospace component production! ????
